Windows freezing and Radeon software

Last updated on February 26, 2020

If your Windows system is freezing for a short bit every 5-10 seconds, and you are using Radeon software for your GFX card, go to:

Radeon Settings – Display – Specs – Override

and disable HDCP Support for every monitor connected to the PC. Just so you know, HDCP stands forĀ High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection, so it is possible that some issues related to copyrighted video content may arise after disabling this option.

In recent versions of Radeon drivers (as of April 2019), the option to disable HDCP is not there anymore, but the Windows freezing problem is gone too. Also, HDCP is enabled by default in Radeon settings. So, if you are still experiencing this problem, maybe you just need to update your drivers. Or there is a different source of it.
